British Muslim Charity Organizes 300 Mile Cycle Route from Mecca to Medina to Raise Funds for Palestine
A British Muslim charity has organised a 300-mile cycling route from Makkah to Madinah to raise funds for Pales-tine. Mercy to Humanity (M2H), a UK-based humanitarian charity, launched the initiative titled “Hijrah Ride 2026” on January 12, with 45 cyclists travelling between Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah. The ride retraces the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE, an event that marked the beginning of the Islamic Hijri calendar. The cyclists are supported by British volunteers and cycling groups, including Go Global Travel & Tours in partnership with Pedlaz CC, Slowspokes CC, and BAD Cycling Club. Following the group’s official departure from Makkah at 2am, the charity confirmed that the journey is intended to raise funds for humanitarian relief in Pales-tine. According to M2H, millions are in urgent need, including children requiring food, shelter, and medical assistance, with large-scale displacement and severe food insecurity reported. As of January 13, the charity’s online fundraiser had raised more than £363,000 toward a £400,000 target. Mercy to Humanity operates as a Muslim humanitarian organisation providing aid to vulnerable communities, including orphans, widows, and the elderly. The charity works across multiple countries, including the UK, Pales-tine, Türkiye, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Pakistan, India, and parts of Africa, delivering services such as clean water projects, medical aid, food distribution, and educational support. M2H has stated that updates from the Hijrah Ride 2026 are being shared through its social media platforms, and registration for the 2027 ride is already open.
