Florida Governor Candidate Vows to Divest $300 Million from Israel
James Fishback, a Republican candidate for governor of Florida, said Americans have the right to criticize Israel and its leaders, describing such criticism as protected speech under the US Constitution. He stated that political speech about foreign governments, including Israel, should not be restricted or penalised. Fishback said he would divest more than $300 million that he says Florida sends to Israel if elected governor. He proposed redirecting those funds into a statewide down payment assistance programme aimed at supporting young married couples seeking to purchase homes. He framed the proposal as a shift in funding priorities, stating that state resources should be used to benefit Floridians. Fishback said the investments currently directed toward Israel should instead be allocated to domestic housing assistance within Florida.
