Over 80 Countries Condemn Recent Israeli Measures in Occupied West Bank
More than 80 countries and several international organizations on Tuesday condemned recent measures by Israel in the West Bank, describing them as unilateral and unlawful. At the United Nations, Pales-tinian envoy Riyad Mansour read a joint statement citing actions including legalization of outposts, settlement expansion, authorization of direct land purchases, and removal of oversight on transactions. The statement said the measures alter the demographic and legal status of Pales-tinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and undermine peace efforts. Signatories reaffirmed commitments to international law, UN resolutions, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice concerning Pales-tinian self-determination and settlement policy. The declaration referenced the 2025 New York Declaration backed by France and Saudi Arabia, which aims to revive negotiations toward a two-state framework. The countries stated that a lasting settlement requires ending Israel’s occupation that began in 1967 and establishing two states within recognized borders based on the 1967 lines, including Jerusalem.
