Rights Group Calls for Congressman Fine’s Resignation After Genocidal Comments Against Muslims
A major Muslim civil rights organisation is calling on House leaders to demand the resignation of Congressman Randy Fine after he issued what the group described as an openly genocidal call for the destruction of all “mainstream Muslims.” The organisation warned that his remarks cross a line that would end the career of any politician who targeted another faith community in the same way. In its statement, the group argued that if an elected official had called for the destruction of “mainstream Jews” or “mainstream Christians,” the backlash would be immediate and overwhelming. Instead, they said, Fine has been allowed to repeat inflammatory claims about Muslims and Palestinians for years, and his latest comments make clear that he is unfit for public office. Earlier this year, the organisation and its policy arm urged congressional leaders to support a censure resolution against Fine for what they described as a pattern of hateful rhetoric. Tuesday’s hearing added fuel to that call. During the session, Fine claimed the United States should “destroy” what he labelled “mainstream Muslims,” framing it as a necessary response to critics of Israeli policy in the occupied West Bank. He insisted he was not worried about being labelled Islamophobic, then doubled down by suggesting peace is impossible and that those he considers enemies should be “destroyed first.” He later shared the clip online as if to underline his point, posting on X: “I don’t know how you make peace with those who seek your destruction. I think you destroy them first.” The comments have triggered widespread alarm from faith leaders, civil rights advocates and legal scholars who say this rhetoric does not just dehumanise millions of people but normalises the language of collective punishment. They argue that such remarks from a sitting member of Congress create a hostile environment for American Muslims and push political discourse into a dangerous place where calls for violence are treated as policy proposals rather than moral red lines. At a moment when anti Muslim hate crimes are rising and political tensions are already high, many are asking why a member of Congress feels comfortable promoting the idea of destroying an entire religious community, and why the House has yet to hold him accountable.
