Trump Accuses Xi of ‘Conspiring Against US’ After China Holds Largest-Ever Military Parade to Celebrate WW2 Victory
United States President Donald Trump has accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of conspiring against Washington with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The accusation came as Xi hosted a major military parade in Beijing to mark 80 years since Japan’s defeat in World War II. “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against the United States of America,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, without offering further details. He also questioned whether Xi would acknowledge U.S. support to China during the Second World War, claiming that “many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory.” In his speech, Xi did not directly mention the United States but expressed gratitude to unspecified nations that aided China during the war. The parade, staged in Tiananmen Square, featured thousands of troops, hypersonic missiles, drones, and advanced fighter jets. It was attended by 26 heads of state, including Putin, Kim, and leaders from Iran, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, Belarus, Serbia, and Slovakia. China framed the event as both a commemoration and a display of its military modernization. Analysts noted the presence of Putin and Kim alongside Xi as a symbolic challenge to Western powers that have isolated the two leaders. China has been positioning itself as a counterweight to U.S. dominance, particularly in Asia, where tensions continue over Taiwan. Trump, while accusing Xi of aligning with Russia and North Korea, maintained that China “needs us much more than we need them.” He also insisted that Beijing would never turn its military against the United States, calling such a move “the worst thing they could ever do.” Although Trump has sought closer ties with Putin since returning to office, relations have been strained by Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump said he is “watching very closely” to see whether Putin will eventually meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, warning that the United States could take a “different stance” if no progress is made. The Beijing parade highlighted China’s growing global influence and its tightening partnerships with Russia, Iran, and North Korea, which are widely viewed as part of an emerging bloc challenging U.S.-led Western hegemony. These alliances also stand in opposition to Washington’s reliance on economic sanctions and military pressure as tools of foreign policy.
