French Muslim Council Demands Investigation into Israeli-linked Surveillance Targeting Citizens of Muslim Faith

The CFCM is pushing hard for answers after reports surfaced that figures tied to Israel may have been quietly collecting data on Muslims in France with help from French institutions. For the council, this isn’t a minor bureaucratic issue; they called the allegations unprecedented and extremely serious, especially the claim that CRIF asked for an investigation specifically targeting French Muslims.

Here’s the thing: the controversy exploded after a video circulated showing Didier Long describing a project he says he carried out with CRIF and other Jewish organizations starting in early 2023. He claims the work was developed with Dov Maimon, who has been linked to Israeli outreach efforts, and that sensitive information gathered from French political and security authorities ended up in the hands of Israeli intelligence. Another individual involved is described in some reports as an Israeli agent, which only intensified public concern.

The CFCM has already moved to alert France’s data-protection authority, the CNIL, and is urging the Interior Ministry to open a full and transparent investigation. They’re also weighing legal action, arguing that covert surveillance, profiling, and the racialization of an entire faith community violate both French law and basic democratic norms.
