Bari Weiss to Use New Role at CBS News to ‘Redraw Lines of Acceptable Debate’
US media figure Bari Weiss, now appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News, has said she wants to use her new role to “redraw the lines of what falls in the 40-yard lines of acceptable debate” in American political and cultural life. She criticized popular voices such as Hasan Piker, Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes as failing to represent “the values and worldview of the vast majority of Americans.” Instead, Weiss said she plans to elevate what she calls “charismatic” figures from the center-left and center-right — like Alan Dershowitz and Dana Loesch — because she believes their views reflect those of most Americans. Weiss proposed that CBS News should move away from what she calls bland “centrist news” and instead provide a platform where people from center-left and center-right backgrounds engage in “good-faith, very passionate, very charismatic disagreement.” She cited a recent gun-control debate on The Free Press featuring Dershowitz and Loesch as the model. Her appointment to run CBS News followed the buyout of her media startup by the network’s parent company, signaling a major shift for the historic broadcaster.
