Newly Released Epst*in Files Include References to Trump

A newly released batch of documents related to Jeffrey Eps-tein, made public by the US Department of Justice on Tuesday, contains multiple references to President Donald Trump. Among them is a January 7, 2020 email from the US attorney for the Southern District of New York stating that flight records showed Trump listed as a passenger on Eps-tein’s private jet at least eight times between 1993 and 1996. The email notes that on some flights Ghislaine Maxwell was also present and that on one 1993 flight the listed passengers were Eps-tein, Trump, and a then-20-year-old woman whose name is redacted. The documents state there is no indication the woman was a victim of any crime and clarify that inclusion in the files does not imply criminal wrongdoing.

The Justice Department said it released nearly 30,000 additional pages related to Eps-tein and warned that some materials include unverified or false claims submitted to the FBI before the 2020 election. Trump has denied any involvement in Eps-tein’s crimes and said he had no knowledge of them. The files also reference Eps-tein’s relationships with other figures, including Prince Andrew, economist Larry Summers, and a 2007 Florida plea deal that resolved federal sex crime charges against Eps-tein. The release includes correspondence discussing alleged victims, investigative obligations, and internal deliberations by federal prosecutors.

Among the documents is a letter postmarked August 13, 2019, appearing to be sent from Eps-tein while incarcerated to convicted sexual abuser Larry Nassar. An FBI record shows the letter was returned to sender and later subjected to a handwriting analysis request to determine its authenticity. The Justice Department said it is reviewing the letter’s validity. The files also include materials related to an Austrian passport bearing Eps-tein’s photograph under another name, internal emails about potential co-conspirators, and correspondence referencing allegations involving magician David Copperfield. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called on the Justice Department to provide further transparency regarding individuals referenced in the files and decisions not to prosecute.
